The GlobalHAB Scientific Steering Committee is operating on funding made available by the IOC of UNESCO and by the US National Science Foundation through SCOR. In the context of the IOC, the Intergovernmental Panel on Harmful Algal Blooms (IPHAB) is responsible to oversee GlobalHAB on behalf of IOC. IPHAB is composed of Member State Representatives and sets IOC priorities for IOC activities on harmful algae. IPHAB is thus the reference point in IOC for GlobalHAB and the GlobalHAB Scientific Steering Committee reports to IPHAB in the same way it reports to SCOR. IPHAB is the intergovernmental linkage of GlobalHAB, and major issues from GlobalHAB can be brought to the IOC Assembly via IPHAB.
Specific GlobalHAB activities are supported by national funding sources that are not managed by the GlobalHAB SSC.
The different activities such as workshops and open science meetings are funded case by case from a variety of national and international sources.
